Hi there! My name is Kiera Curtis CD(DONA) and I am a certified birth doula, providing doula services and placenta encapsulation to expectant mothers in Hampton Roads. I am also rebozo certified and specialize in hypnobirthing for a comfortable and manageable labor. I serve Williamsburg, Newport News, Yorktown, Hampton, Gloucester, Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Suffolk and Portsmouth. It is of my utmost importance to provide unconditional emotional/physical support, education and resources during the last trimester of pregnancy, labor and the postpartum period. My goal is to create a positive birth experience where the mother feels, empowered, well informed, respected and comforted.
I have been a Hampton Roads native since 1995 and love everything the area has to offer. My husband and I met in 2013, and quickly knew we were going to get married and start a life together. We love adventure, traveling, great food, music, local parks, beaches and anything exhilarating. Whether it’s scuba diving, skydiving, or cooking a nice family meal and cuddling up on the couch, we simply appreciate life and enjoy spending it together.
We became pregnant in August 2014, and I immersed myself in researching how to have a natural pregnancy and birth. Whether it was breastfeeding, baby wearing, cloth diapering or labor relaxation, I was on it. We soon realized that a home birth with a knowledgeable midwife was the best option for us, especially having a labor and delivery unit less than two miles from home. My education into hypnobirthing and childbirth took full force. In May 2015, we achieved a dreamlike home water birth with help from our midwife, doula and all the mental preparation I worked so diligently on.
My birth experience and journey into motherhood changed my life in every positive way possible. I was extraordinarily blessed to have the beautiful birth I did, and I immediately knew that I wanted to do everything in my power to help other women achieve their dream births. The following April, I attended my DONA International workshop, and began my journey as a doula. The immense joy that doula work brings me is incredibly fulfilling. Helping to empower women bringing their babies into the world is by far one of the most gratifying experiences I have encountered. Being a birth doula is certainly my calling, and I look forward to many more years of this work.
I fully understand how a birth plan can change in the blink of an eye, and I find it vital to help mothers and their partners remain calm and educated during challenging situations. I believe women are beautiful and strong creatures that are designed to birth their babies in whatever way they desire. As a doula, I support all births and wish to empower women during one of the most magical journeys they will ever experience. I am passionate about providing women with the tools they need during their pregnancies and labor, and believe birth is something to be honored, respected and valued.
